Examples of Collaborative Service Projects

1. Severe Weather Shelter Network is a partnership between local churches in Lakewood, The Action Center, Jefferson County Human Services and Mean Street Ministry.  The goal is to provide shelter for the homeless during severe weather months.  Local churches pick up those in need of shelter at the Action Center and then transport them to a host church where they are fed and housed at night from October through April each year.

2. Whiz Kids' mission is to help improve the lives of economically challenged elementary and middle school children by providing academic tutoring, positive mentoring relationships, and spiritual nurture.  Whiz Kids trains volunteer tutors to provide literacy and math help to students who are struggling academically.  The Lakewood Church Network works in cooperation with area elementary schools to offer this program from October through April each school year.

3. Foothills Field of Dreams was a successful project that restored a derelict sports field at a neighborhood elementary school.  The Lakewood Church Network forged a partnership with Jefferson County Public Schools, busienss leaders, elected Lakewood leaders, HOA leaders, apartment managers and members of the community and helped raise $450,000 through grants and gifts.  The field has been completed and is now used by the school and neighborhood.  (See video below.)  Other similar partnership projects are now in various stages of planning and implementation using this model.
